It was a good run, but the Belleview Rattlers unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Thursday. They were dealt a 72-15 defeat at the hands of Leesburg. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Belleview has scored all season.
When it comes to explaining why Belleview lost, one person who can't be blamed is Aaliyah Armbrister. Despite the final result, she scored eight points along with eight rebounds and three steals. That was a full 53.3% of Belleview's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Briyanna Miles, who scored seven points.
Leesburg's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Saige McCloud led the charge by scoring 23 points. Another player making a difference was Aniya Hester, who scored 18 points.
Belleview's defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-3. As for Leesburg, their win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-1.
Belleview will take on Lake Weir at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lake Weir will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 592nd, while Belleview is ranked 267th). Leesburg won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Central at 5:30 p.m. on January 12th. Central comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 17 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
