Westlake unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They lost 46-21 to the Langston Hughes Panthers on Friday. The Lions were not able to make up for their defeat to the Panthers from their previous meeting back in August of 2024.
Several Lions players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jacob Jackson, who rushed for 92 yards and one score on only nine carries, and also picked up 41 receiving yards. Elias Gandy was another key pass catcher, picking up 102 receiving yards and one touchdown.
Westlake and Langston Hughes should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings. The Lions will square off against Douglass at 7:30 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (32 vs. 162). Meanwhile, Langston Hughes (ranked eighth) will meet Mays (ranked 76th) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
