Cross County recap October 8, 2013
National Trail moved up to 389 from 426 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Cross County. The Blazers climbed the ranks as a result of topping Arcanum 34-30.
Miami East extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Bethel, 51-0. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.
Tri-County North's dynamic duo of Austin Hutchins and Logan Elmore proved to be unstoppable against Covington, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Hutchins threw for 143 yards and 2 touchdowns and Elmore had 62 yards receiving. Colton Booth helped Tri-County North's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 29 yards.
Jordan Newman was a beast in the backfield as Ansonia beat Bradford.
Newman provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Tigers defeated the Railroaders.
National Trail's Garrett Griffin and Phillip White have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-4 quarterback Griffin has thrown for 1,492 yards this season, while White has 18 catches for 416 yards. Newman from Ansonia leads the league in rushing with 964 yards.
The top two teams in Cross County will face off this week when first place Miami East takes on second place Covington. Last week, Miami East topped the Bees, while the Buccs bested the Panthers.
Eugene Hoening's team's Newman is a mere 36 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. In 156 carries Newman has accumulated 964 yard this year.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Max Current's team takes on Covington. The Vikings have allowed 47 points this season, while David Miller's team has given up 60. Miami East allowed 0 points last week as it bested Bethel.
The Vikings took down Brad Clendening's team 51-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Colton McKinney ran for 128 yards during the win.
