Windsor has been on the road for three straight, but on Tuesday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Fort Collins Lambkins at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Windsor's 22-5 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They took a 60-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of Fossil Ridge on Saturday. While losing is never fun, Windsor can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 64th, while Fossil Ridge is ranked fifth).
Despite their loss, Windsor saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Madden Smiley, who scored 18 points along with 4 steals, was perhaps the best of all. John Backhaus was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with 9 rebounds.
Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 38-38 at halftime, Fort Collins was not quite Denver East's equal in the second half on Saturday. Fort Collins fell 83-74 to Denver East. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Jayce King put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 33 points along with 5 rebounds. He scored a full 44.6% of Fort Collins' points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Henry Peterson, who scored 16 points along with 5 rebounds.
Their wins bumped Windsor to 1-2 and Fossil Ridge to 3-0.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Windsor have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 36.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Fort Collins struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26 per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out. Windsor lost to Fort Collins at home by a decisive 62-44 margin in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. Thankfully for Windsor, Luke Wagstaff (who scored 23 points along with 8 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
