Edinburg stacked a 22nd blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They breezed by Pharr-San Juan-Alamo on the road to the tune of 80-29. Given Edinburg's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 70th, while Pharr-San Juan-Alamo is ranked 1104th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Edinburg's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Emily Carranco, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 11 rebounds. Carranco is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last ten games she's played. Madison Martinez was another key contributor, scoring 20 points along with nine rebounds and five steals.
Even though Mission has not done well against La Joya recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Mission strolled past La Joya with points to spare, taking the game 52-34. The win was familiar territory for Mission who now have four in a row.
Edinburg's victory bumped their record up to 29-2. As for Mission, their victory bumped their record up to 9-12.
Everything came up roses for Edinburg against Mission when the teams last played on January 5th as the squad secured a 80-46 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Edinburg since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
