St. Mary Central Catholic is 2-8 against Calvert since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Panthers will head out on the road to take on the Senecas at 5:00 p.m. St. Mary Central Catholic will come into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.
St. Mary Central Catholic lost a heartbreaker the last time they played St. Joseph Central Catholic, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's match. The Panthers were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Crimson Streaks on Friday.
Reid Wikel was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over six innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.

In other batting news, St. Mary Central Catholic let Sam Lawrence and Cullen Dillard run wild. Lawrence scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Dillard scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. Those two stolen bases gave Lawrence a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cayden Wikel, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Calvert beat Hopewell-Loudon 7-2 on Friday. The Senecas haven't had any issues with the Chieftains recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
Like St. Mary Central Catholic, Calvert also got a great game from a two-way player: Blake Coleman. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. Coleman was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
Coleman wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Vencenzo Lyons, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
St. Mary Central Catholic's victory was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average this season. As for Calvert, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. St. Mary Central Catholic has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Calvert struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
St. Mary Central Catholic suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Calvert in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
