SAN BENITO, Texas -
McAllen (Texas) captured the lead in the fourth quarter and held on for a 29-28 victory over
San Benito (Texas) on Saturday. The Bulldogs captured the lead for good when
Fred Hover ran for a touchdown.
After taking the lead on a touchdown catch by
Arturo Coronado, the Greyhounds went into halftime with a 14-7 lead. The Bulldogs took the lead for good with a touchdown run by Hover in the fourth quarter.
Despite scoring six points in the third, McAllen still trailed by 8 points going into the fourth quarter. But 16 points in the fourth helped MHS pull out the victory.
The Bulldogs got two points from its defense on the way to victory.
Jesse Jimenez made a difference for San Benito. The senior quarterback ran for one touchdown. He has now scored two touchdowns on the season.
McAllen's most effective player was Hover. The sophomore quarterback threw two touchdowns and ran for one touchdown.
San Benito (4-4) goes up against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo in a 5A Region IV District 31 game matchup next week, while McAllen (6-1) locks horns with Weslaco also in a 5A Region IV District 31 game.
