Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the Elbert County Blue Devils walked away with it. They walked away with a 34-27 victory over Oglethorpe County on Friday. Given Elbert County's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 154th, while Oglethorpe County is ranked 338th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jacari Barnett was a one-man wrecking crew for Elbert County as he rushed for 195 yards and three touchdowns. Barnett was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 50 yards. Terrez Allen made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
The victory makes it two in a row for Elbert County and bumps their season record up to 9-2. As for Oglethorpe County, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.
Elbert County will face off against Trion at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Trion is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. Oglethorpe County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
