Berks Inter-County 1 recap Sept. 26, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Reading, who took down 215th ranked Pottsville, 15-14.
The Knights moved up to 253 from 447 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Berks Inter-County 1. Reading was able to make the jump by beating the Crimson Tide 15-14.
Ryan Barbon was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 147 yards on 28 carries as Governor Mifflin lost to Conrad Weiser. Thomas Depaul also contributed to the rushing game with 87 yards on the ground.
Dundore was the best wideout in the league this week as the Eagles lost to the Scouts. Dundore tallied three receptions for 74 yards. Matt Connelly helped Exeter Township's passing attack out by catching one ball for two yards.
Nick Schoener put up the best numbers through the air as Conrad Weiser bested Exeter Township. He finished with a total of eight completions for 163 yards and one touchdown. Schoener's favorite target this week was Angle Cruz, who caught two passes for 52 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Schoener and Cruz Alan Moyer's team has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Schoener leads the league in passing with 461 yards, while Cruz has rushed for 491 yards this season. Twin Valley's Nigel Hill leads the league in receiving yards with 224 on six catches.
Two of the top units in Berks Inter-County 1 will face off this week when the Scouts take on Daniel Boone. Conrad Weiser's offense has racked up 124 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while the Blazers have allowed only 142 on the year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Pottsville takes on Muhlenberg. Kevin Keating's team is currently in sixth, while the Muhls are in first.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Matthew Bauer's team takes on the Mustangs. The Eagles have allowed 73 points this season, while Governor Mifflin has given up 68. Exeter Township allowed 31 points last week as it fell to the Scouts.
Dominic Vecchio's team was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fourth in the league. The Mustangs beat Daniel Boone 34-6 earlier in the week.
