The Highland Scots will head out to face off against the Frontier Titans at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Highland took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Independence, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Scots skirted past the Falcons 8-7. The victory was some much needed relief for the Scots as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Highland's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Elijah Legan, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Legan has posted since April 2nd.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Frontier, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Garces Memorial on Friday as they made off with a 7-1 victory. With that win, the Titans brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.
Landon Nettles spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on seven hits and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Jaylen Tia and Landon McDonald did most of the damage at the plate: Tia went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI, while McDonald went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run. Frontier is 4-1 when Tia posts one or more home runs, but 8-9 otherwise. TJ Archuleta also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Frontier lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. They are 4-1 when they post two or more home runs.
Frontier is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Highland, their record is now 14-8.
Highland suffered a grim 15-2 defeat to Frontier when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can the Scots avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
