The Ware Shoals Hornets's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They were beaten by Christ Church Episcopal 56-19. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Ware Shoals has suffered yet this season.
Ware Shoals' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Stella Eichorn, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 15 rebounds. Eichorn is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last six games she's played.
Alexandria Bennon was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 22 points and 11 steals for Christ Church Episcopal. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Bennon has scored at least a third of Christ Church Episcopal's points. Another player making a difference was Caroline Johnson, who scored ten points along with four steals.
Ware Shoals has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season. As for Christ Church Episcopal, their victory ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-9.
Ware Shoals and Thornwell will face off at 5:30 p.m. on January 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Thornwell comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 15 points in their last four games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. Christ Church Episcopal will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Southside Christian at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Southside Christian will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive.
