The Auburn Tigers had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.4 points), and they went ahead and made it eight on Saturday. They skirted past Jackson 52-49. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 11 more assists than your opponent, as Auburn did.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Auburn to victory, but perhaps none more so than Griffin Mclean, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds. Those nine rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Tabari Allen, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Jackson lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being William Joseph Taylor, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Micah Caster, who scored 12 points.
Auburn's victory was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.0 points per game. As for Jackson, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-2.
Auburn and Dothan will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Alabama (Dothan is ranked 33rd, while Auburn is ranked 23rd).
