The Richard Winn Academy Eagles suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Thursday. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 52-30 walloping at the hands of Cambridge Academy. Richard Winn Academy was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Cambridge Academy apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Abby Lewis, who scored ten points along with two steals. Lewis is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Meagan Brigman, who scored six points along with seven rebounds and three blocks.
Richard Winn Academy struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Cambridge Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jillian Mapes led the charge by dropping a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Indya Southerland, who scored 16 points.
Richard Winn Academy has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-4 record this season. As for Cambridge Academy, their victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-3.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing Newberry Academy the next time they take the court. Cambridge Academy will head out to face Newberry Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, while Richard Winn Academy will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
