Cape Fear is a perfect 10-0 against Seventy-First since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Colts will look to defend their home field against the Falcons at 5:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Cape Fear has three straight wins, Seventy-First has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Wednesday, Cape Fear made easy work of C.B. Aycock and carried off a 9-3 victory. The Colts might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by six runs or more this season.
Karalina Tomasic spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on nine hits.
On the hitting side, Allie Dawson was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-5. Another player making a difference was McKinley Kolasa, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Dawson wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Cape Fear kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Seventy-First's offense. They came up short against Gray's Creek on Tuesday, falling 18-0.
Cape Fear pushed their record up to 11-3 with the win, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average this season. As for Seventy-First, their loss dropped their record down to 2-9.
Seventy-First's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Cape Fear has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .540. It's a different story for Seventy-First, though, as they've only averaged .330. Will they be able to contain Cape Fear's hitters?
Everything went Cape Fear's way against Seventy-First in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Cape Fear made off with a 26-0 win. Will the Colts repeat their success, or do the Falcons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
