The Guilderland Flying Dutchmen will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Columbia Blue Devils at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Guilderland is headed into their home opener looking to turn things around after starting their season on the road. They fell 11-6 to Niskayuna on Friday. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it five in a row.
Christian Walsh was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Walsh was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
In other pitching news, Guilderland got a good showing from Landon Warchol, who pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
Back at the plate, Ryan Conklin was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Sean Roddy, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
Meanwhile, Columbia unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of Ballston Spa by a score of 4-3 on Friday.
Columbia also got a good showing from Quinlan Finnigan, who tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits Finnigan has allowed since back in April of 2024.
On the hitting side, Columbia saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sean Boniface, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Guilderland came up short against Columbia in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, falling 4-1. Will the Flying Dutchmen have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
