Basketball Recap: Village Skates Past Arvada with Ease

Village won the last time they faced Arvada and things went their way on Saturday too. The Village Mountaineers really took it to the Arvada Bulldogs for the full four quarters, racking up a 60-32 victory. With the Mountaineers ahead 41-16 at the half, the match was all but over already.

Village's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but James Driggers led the charge by going 11-for-18 en route to 26 points and seven boards. Village is undefeated when Driggers posts 20 or more points, but 7-10 otherwise. Carter Sterk was another key player, putting up 16 points and six steals.

Village smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in nine consecutive games.

Despite the loss, Arvada saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Tre Kent posted 11 points. Daiven Binns also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Village has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.4 points over those games. This is the second loss in a row for Arvada and nudges their season record down to 3-18.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Village will take on James Irwin at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Arvada, they will face off against Aurora West College Prep Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Aurora West College Prep Academy has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
