Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mansfield). They put the hurt on the Canton Warriors with a sharp 16-5 win on Monday. Considering the Tigers have won four matches by more than eight runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Alex Davis was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Davis was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Riley Oakes was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Liam Shaut, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
Mansfield hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Canton struck out seven times.
Mansfield's victory bumped their record up to 5-1-1. As for Canton, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mansfield will venture away from home to take on Sayre at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Canton, they will head out to challenge South Williamsport at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
