Basketball Game Preview: Los Fresnos Falcons vs. United South Panthers

Los Fresnos is 0-3 against United South since December of 2014 but things could change on Monday. The Los Fresnos Falcons will finish 2024 at home by hosting the United South Panthers at 2:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

United South is hoping to do what Port Isabel couldn't on Friday: put an end to Los Fresnos' winning streak, which now stands at three games. Los Fresnos simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Port Isabel 81-49. With the Falcons ahead 39-19 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

Gio Galvan was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 23 boards. The contest was his ninth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Andrew Munoz, who posted 19 points.

Los Fresnos smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in four consecutive games.

Meanwhile, United South took their match on Friday with ease, bagging a 75-40 victory over Del Rio. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 195th, while the Rams are ranked 959th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

United South pushed their record up to 15-6 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.8 points per game. As for Los Fresnos, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 contests, which lines up perfectly with their 18-6 record this season.
