Valley is on a three-game streak of home losses, and West Las Vegas a three-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Monday. The Valley Vikings will be playing in front of their home fans against the West Las Vegas Dons at 3:30 p.m. One thing working in Valley's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three matches.
Having struggled with three losses in a row, Valley turned things around against Hope Christian on Thursday. They blew past the Huskies 11-1. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won nine games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Aaliyah Diggs was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Naliyah Mora was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hope Christian only posted an OBP of .158.
The home team had won the previous two meetings between West Las Vegas and Robertson, and West Las Vegas kept the tradition alive. The Dons narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Cardinals 6-5.
Malie Satete made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alexis Pacheco, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and three runs. Another player making a difference was Tyra Horner, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
West Las Vegas' win bumped their record up to 14-4. As for Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 10-12.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Valley hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .427. However, it's not like West Las Vegas struggles in that department as they've averaged .338. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
