If the Wiregrass Kings were feeling good off their 67-25 takedown of the Ezekiel Academy Knights last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Wiregrass took a serious blow against Abbeville Christian Academy on Tuesday, falling 79-41. Wiregrass was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-19.
Wiregrass' loss came despite strong showings from Riley Treadaway and Brayden Treadaway . Treadaway scored 14 points, while Treadaway scored 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zach Crisler, who scored six points.
Javarse Turner continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Abbeville Christian Academy, dropping a double-double on 21 points and 21 rebounds. Turner is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jp Sowell, who scored 15 points along with three steals.
Wiregrass' defeat ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 10-7. As for Abbeville Christian Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 12-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wiregrass will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against East Central HomeSchool at 7:30 p.m. on January 12th. Hopefully East Central HomeSchool focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Tuesday. As for Abbeville Christian Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Chambers Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Chambers Academy is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home.
