After two games on the road, Goliad is heading back home. They will finish 2023 at home by hosting the St. Paul Cardinals at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Last Thursday, Goliad suffered a rough 47-23 loss at the hands of Incarnate Word Academy. While losing is never fun, Goliad can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1142nd, while Incarnate Word Academy is ranked 355th).
Meanwhile, St. Paul's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on December 1st after their fifth straight loss. They were dealt a 68-33 defeat at the hands of Flatonia.
Goliad has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season. As for St. Paul, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.
Goliad came up short against St. Paul in their previous matchup back in December of 2021, falling 39-33. Can Goliad avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
