5A Region 2 recap October 22, 2013
Callaway extended the longest winning streak in 5A Region 2 this week by beating Ridgeland, 49-10. The victory was the ninth in a row for the team.
Canton and Vicksburg played the closest game in the league this week, with Canton eventually emerging with a 20-19 victory.
Ledarius Carpenter threw for 181 yards and 4 touchdowns. He was 8-10 with 0 interceptions.
Tyler Shell provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Germantown beat Neshoba Central. He completed 8 passes for 248 yards and 3 touchdowns and also ran for 11 yards. Shell's key target this week was Jaylen Smith, who caught 4 passes for 169 yards.
Carpenter put up the best numbers in passing as Pearl beat Lanier. Carpenter's favorite target this week was Demorrious Brown, who caught 2 passes for 67 yards.
Pearl's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Pirates feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Carpenter has thrown for 1,770 yards and 14 touchdowns this season, while Brown has 40 catches for 915 yards.
The Pirates' Brown is only 85 receiving yards away from breaking 1,000 receiving yards this season as he enters this week's game against the the Gators. So far this year, he has garnered 40 catches for 915 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Pearl takes on Vicksburg. At the moment, John Perry's team is in second, while Tavares Johnson's team is in third.
The Pirates took down the Bulldogs 50-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Carpenter ran for 14 yards during the win.
