The Chico Dragons will be playing at home against the Collinsville Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Chico has struggled recently with eight losses in a row, while Collinsville will arrive with five straight victories.
Last Friday, Chico was beaten by Lindsay 48-7.
Meanwhile, Collinsville stacked a eighth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They blew past Muenster 51-27.
It was another big night for Logan Jenkins, who threw for 349 yards and six touchdowns, and also rushed for 169 yards and a touchdown on only 15 carries. Jenkins hasn't dropped below 300 passing yards for six straight games. Colin Barnes was another key contributor, picking up 92 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Chico's defeat was their seventh straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-0 Nocona and 12-2 Collinsville (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 61.5% over those games). As for Collinsville, their victory bumped their record up to 8-1.
Chico was taken down by Collinsville 44-6 in their previous meeting back in November of 2022. Thankfully for Chico, Nathen Bocanegra (who picked up 154 receiving yards and two touchdowns) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
