Clarkrange extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping them down to 7-6. They lost 22-6 to the Clay County Bulldogs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-2 on Monday.
Gauge Deaton made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those doubles were his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Mason McWhirter, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
As for Clay County, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games.
On Clay County's side, Aayden Cherry made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Cherry was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Clay County is 3-1 when Cherry posts two or more runs, but 1-3 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brayden Baskerville, who went 4-for-6 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Clay County's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 2-3 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Keen, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles.
Clarkrange didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 14-3 loss against York Institute on the 2nd. As for Clay County, they have also already played their next contest, an 8-7 defeat against Trousdale County on the 2nd.
