The South Aiken Thoroughbreds's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. The game between South Aiken and Josey wasn't particularly close, with South Aiken falling 51-37.
Despite the defeat, South Aiken saw an underclassman step up: Shamariya Jenkins scored 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jasmine Epps, who scored nine points.
Josey's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kerri Fluellen led the charge by scoring 18 points along with seven assists and six steals. Fluellen is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Za?miyah Jenkins z, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds.
South Aiken has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-6 record this season. As for Josey, their win bumped their record up to 10-2.
South Aiken will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Thomson at 6:00 p.m. on December 29th. Josey and Gray Collegiate Academy will face off at 2:00 p.m. on January 1, 2024 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in their respective states (Gray Collegiate Academy is ranked 84th in South Carolina, while Josey is ranked 65th in Georgia).
