The Portage Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They took a 55-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of Richland. Portage lost against Richland in their previous head to head on Thursday, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 49-44 score last time.
Despite the loss, Portage still got an impressive performance from Trae Kargo, who scored 24 points. Kargo scored a full 50% of Portage's points, the sixth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Bode Layo was another key contributor, scoring six points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Portage's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-4. As for Richland, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-5.
Portage and Northern Cambria will face off at 7:15 p.m. on January 4th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The timing is sure in Northern Cambria's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Portage has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road. Richland will take on Bald Eagle Area at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
