Wildwood took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They blew past Eastside 24-13. The Wildcats not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 25th (when they won 24-12).
The team relied heavily on Alex Barron, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Mikaela Bey, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Wildwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .725. The last time their OBP was this high was back in February.
Meanwhile, Bishop McLaughlin Catholic got the win against Hernando Christian Academy on Tuesday by a conclusive 22-12. The Hurricanes might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by ten runs or more this season.
Cleopatra Cabrera made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over 5.1 innings while giving up five earned (and four unearned) runs off only two hits. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
In other batting news, Catherine Bell was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with five runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Keegan Castelli was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI.
Bishop McLaughlin Catholic's victory ended a 12-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-9. As for Wildwood, their win bumped their record up to 4-15.
Wednesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Wildwood has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .583. However, it's not like Bishop McLaughlin Catholic struggles in that department as they've averaged .520. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
