The Gaither Cowboys's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Leto Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on February 15th. Gaither will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 290th, while Leto is ranked 46th).
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Gaither can now relate to. They were dealt a 68-35 defeat at the hands of the Packers on Tuesday. Gaither was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 44-18.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jovani Robinson, who scored ten points. Dante Sanchez was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Meanwhile, Leto waltzed into their contest on Saturday with five straight wins but they left with six. They managed a 57-52 victory over Wharton. Winning is a bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 11 to 2 on the offensive boards, as Leto did.
Leto can attribute much of their success to Derek Delgardo, jr, who scored 22 points along with seven rebounds, and Daniel Delgardo, III, who scored 25 points along with two steals. Delgardo, jr has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last 21 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Finn O'Neill, who scored eight points.
Gaither's loss dropped their record down to 15-11. As for Leto, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 21-6 record this season.
Fans should be in for an exciting game on Thursday as the pair are among the highest scoring teams in the league right now. Gaither hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 57 points per game. However, it's not like Leto struggles in that department as they've been averaging 61.3 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Gaither and Leto were neck-and-neck in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, but Gaither came up empty-handed after a 47-46 defeat. Can Gaither avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
