Softball Recap: Burroughs Wins Going Away Against Burbank

Burroughs won the last time they faced Burbank and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Bears put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 11-1 victory. Considering the Bears have won 11 contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Valentina Reyes tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Chloe Zavala, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2025. Sydney Shugar was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Burroughs has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Burbank, their loss dropped their record down to 3-9.

Looking ahead, Burroughs will venture away from home to take on Dos Pueblos at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Chargers' pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so the Bears' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Burbank, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Glendale at 3:45 p.m.
