Cape Henlopen hasn't had much luck against Sussex Central recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Vikings will be playing in front of their home fans against the Golden Knights at 4:15 p.m. Cape Henlopen will come into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
Cape Henlopen is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Delaware's top teams: Woodbridge, who was ranked 18th at the time (Cape Henlopen was ranked second). The Vikings beat the Raiders on Thursday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 11-1. Considering the Vikings have won nine matches by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Abby Marsh made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Cape Henlopen let Ava Calciano and Hayden Hudson run wild. Calciano went 2-for-3 with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Hudson went 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI Hudson has posted since back in April of 2024. Jordynn Bowe was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Cape Henlopen kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Sussex Central fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Lake Forest on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 7-4 to the Spartans.
Cape Henlopen's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-0. The team's perfect season has a lot to do with their hitting performance: the team's won by an average of 6.7 runs thus far. As for Sussex Central, they now have a losing record of 5-6.
Cape Henlopen came up short against Sussex Central in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, falling 7-2. Will the Vikings have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
