The Union City Indians will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Blue River Valley Vikings at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. Hopefully Union City focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 33 last Saturday.
Union City struggled with offensive rebounds last Saturday (Tri had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Union City was dealt a 70-41 defeat at the hands of Tri. Defeat or not, Union City got some senior leadership from Luane Schoonbroodt who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds and three steals and Camryn Fischer who scored 14 points. The contest was Schoonbroodt's eighth in a row with at least ten points.
Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Blue River Valley ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They snuck past Union County with a 52-48 victory. The win was just what Blue River Valley needed coming off of a 61-24 loss in their prior game.
Blue River Valley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Maciah Driskill, who scored nine points along with 11 rebounds and four blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Shelton, who scored nine points.

Keep an eye on the arc in Friday's game: Union City have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 38.4% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Blue River Valley struggles in that department as they've only made 36.8% of their threes per game this season. Given Union City's sizeable advantage in that area, Blue River Valley will need to find a way to close that gap.
Union City suffered a grim 57-36 defeat to Blue River Valley in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. Thankfully for Union City, Maci Chamberlin (who scored 27 points) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
