Reed hasn't had much luck against Douglas recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. Reed will face off against Douglas at 9:00 a.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Douglas will be up against a hot Reed team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Everything went Reed's way against River Valley on Friday as Reed made off with an 11-5 win.
Reed got a big performance out of Jaelee Hammes, who scored a run while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance also gave Hammes a new career-high in RBI (two). Elana Torres also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Reed hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in 11 consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Douglas won against Reno on Friday with 18 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. Douglas blew past Dayton 18-1. The victory was familiar territory for the Tigers, who have now won three games in a row.
Camryn McLelland made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. McLelland was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Annie Hill was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. She has been hot recently, having also posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Marissa McLelland was another key player, scoring three runs while going 4-for-4.
Reed's record now sits at 8-3-2. As for Douglas, their record is now 10-3.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. Reed hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Douglas struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.9 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Reed came up short against Douglas when the teams last played on March 4th, falling 12-9. Can Reed avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
