The Waco Lions will head out on the road to square off against the Lorena Leopards at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Lorena took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Waco, who comes in off a win.
Waco is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victor by a 16-1 margin over DeSoto on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Lions.
Chloe Nava made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. That earned run marked the first that she tossed this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four RBI and one triple.
In other batting news, Jacquelyn Warren was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Alayna Gutierrez was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Waco always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .767. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Lorena suffered their biggest loss since March 8, 2024 on Saturday. They came up short against Grand Saline, falling 8-2. The Leopards have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Isabella Davis made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run.
Lorena's defeat dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Waco, the win got them back to even at 2-2-1.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Waco hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .409. However, it's not like Lorena struggles in that department as they've averaged .322. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Waco might still be hurting after the 15-0 loss they got from Lorena in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Can Waco avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
