Abraham Cherry was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. Those four runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Elon Sharp, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. He continues to improve, besting his previous run total in each of the last three games he's played. Keane Ricchiuto was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Herron kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Herron has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Indianapolis Shortridge, their loss dropped their record down to 2-13.
Indianapolis Shortridge suffered a grim 7-0 defeat to Herron when the teams last played back in April. Can the Blue Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
