Basketball Recap: Joe Benoliel's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Northwest Yeshiva over Northwest Christian

Northwest Yeshiva lost against Northwest Christian back in January of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Northwest Yeshiva Lions fell just short of the Northwest Christian Wolverines by a score of 65-63. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Wednesday (62), the Lions still had to take the loss.

Northwest Yeshiva lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Joe Benoliel, who went 8 of 19 en route to 20 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. The match was Benoliel's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Evan Kaufthal, who went 7 for 13 on his way to 16 points along with seven boards and six assists.

Northwest Christian got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jack Vahey out in front who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 12 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniel Babber, who went 7 of 13 en route to 18 points.

Northwest Yeshiva dropped their record down to 9-4 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Northwest Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Northwest Yeshiva will square off against Evergreen Lutheran at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Northwest Yeshiva knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Evergreen Lutheran likes a good challenge. As for Northwest Christian, they will challenge Crosspoint Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Northwest Christian will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
