The Herrin Tigers will venture away from home to face off against the Benton Rangers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Herrin has struggled recently with four defeats in a row, while Benton will arrive with three straight wins.
On Tuesday, Herrin came up short against Massac County and fell 13-10.
Madison Monchino was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Madison Dickerson, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Benton ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Nashville 7-6. That's two games straight that the Rangers have won by just one run.
The team relied heavily on Malia Webb (2025), who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Lucy Giacone (2025) was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Benton hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in three consecutive contests.
Benton pushed their record up to 11-7 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Herrin, their loss dropped their record down to 8-10.
Wednesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Herrin hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .313. However, it's not like Benton struggles in that department as they've averaged .442. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Herrin was able to grind out a solid victory over Benton in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 7-3. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Rangers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
