Maranatha is 2-8 against Village Christian since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Maranatha Minutemen will head out on the road to take on the Village Christian Crusaders at 7:30 p.m. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Maranatha was able to grind out a solid victory over Valley Christian, taking the game 53-42.
Maranatha relied on the efforts of Nicholas Khatchikian, who scored 12 points, and Daniel Nwabudike, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and two blocks. Another player making a difference was Chris Smith, who scored nine points along with two blocks.
Meanwhile, Village Christian entered their tilt with Fairfax with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Village Christian was the clear victor by a 66-42 margin over Fairfax. Given Village Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 76th, while Fairfax is ranked 860th), the result on Saturday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Maranatha has been performing well recently as they've won 12 of their last 15 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. As for Village Christian, their win bumped their record up to 16-7.
Maranatha didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Village Christian in their previous meeting on January 2nd, but they still walked away with a 65-60 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Maranatha since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
