Newark is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Monday. They will be playing at home against the Wayne Eagles at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Friday, Newark got the win against Franklin by a conclusive 23-2.
Brianna Bulman made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Bulman was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Newark got a massive performance out of Sophia Delfs, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Jade Stoner was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI.
Meanwhile, Wayne had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 win over Aquinas Institute on Thursday. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Little Irish recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Like Newark, Wayne also got a great game from a two-way player: Reese Sinclair. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Those seven strikeouts gave Sinclair a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Chloe Metcalfe, who went 3-for-5 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Sophie Armstrong, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three RBI and one run.
