The Gonzaga Eagles are ranked highly in their home state, and on Friday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of the Montverde Academy Eagles. Gonzaga was outmatched by Montverde Academy on the road and fell 93-51. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Gonzaga has scored all season.
Cooper Flagg was his usual excellent self, scoring 23 points along with eight blocks and five assists for Montverde Academy. The contest was Flagg's 14th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Robert Wright III, who scored 15 points along with nine assists.
This is the second loss in a row for Gonzaga and nudges their season record down to 11-2. As for Montverde Academy, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 15-0.
Gonzaga will look to defend their home court on Monday against St. Mary's at 6:00 p.m. St. Mary's is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. Montverde Academy won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Varsity Opponent at 6:00 p.m. on January 6th. Varsity Opponent is hoping to put an end to an 11-game streak of away losses.
