Wills Point is 0-5 against Sunnyvale since October of 2020 but things could change on Friday. The Tigers will take on Sunnyvale at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Wills Point played in-conference for the first time on Thursday and got just the result they were looking for. They took their matchup with ease, bagging a 36-7 win over Kemp. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Tigers' offense, which had struggled in the games prior.

TANNER MADDOX went supernova, rushing for 87 yards and three touchdowns on only ten carries, while also throwing for 140 yards and one TD. Those 87 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. A healthy portion of MADDOX's aerial production (86 yards to be exact) went to JAX KING, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Wills Point was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 339 rushing yards. They are a perfect 3-0 when they've run for more than 200 yards.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Wills Point's defense and their five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by REESE PETERSON and JUSTIN BROOKS, who racked up four sacks between them.
Meanwhile, Sunnyvale had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 47.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They really took it to the Panthers for the full four quarters, racking up a 58-21 victory. Given Sunnyvale's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 176th, while Ford is ranked 369th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Wills Point better keep an eye on Cayson Maupin. He was instrumental in Sunnyvale's win, throwing for 227 yards and three touchdowns while completing 77.8% of his passes, and also punching in one score on the ground. Jaden Cross helped Maupin out on the ground, rushing for 60 yards and one TD, while also picking up 55 receiving yards.
Wills Point's record now sits at 3-5. As for Sunnyvale, their record is now 7-1.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Wills Point has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 168 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Sunnyvale struggles in that department as they've been averaging 153.4 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Wills Point was dealt a bruising 49-10 defeat at the hands of Sunnyvale in their previous meeting back in November of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Maupin, who threw for 354 yards and three touchdowns while completing 73.1% of his passes, and also rushed for 44 yards and one score. Now that the Tigers know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
