Texas is known for its football, New York is known for its basketball and in Pennsylvania, the state is known for its wrestling.
Of the top 42 wrestlers in 14 weight classes ranked by Wrestling USA in mid-February, Pennsylvania had 10 of them, including five ranked No. 1 in their weight class. Following the conclusion of the state championships, four finished with state or national championships.
The most notable is the duo from Central Mountain (Mill Hall, Pa.), brothers Andrew and Dylan Alton. Andrew won the 145-pound weight class in the AAA division while Dylan won the 152-pound division. Both end the season ranked No. 1 in the country in their weight class and both finished the year with 45-0 records.
Marshall Peppleman of Central Dauphin (Harrisburg, Pa.) also won a state title, claiming the 160-pound weight class in the AAA division. He ends the year undefeated at 50-0.
Heavyweight Michael McMullen of Wyoming Seminary College Prep (Kingston, Pa.), meanwhile, did not compete in the state finals but he did take first place at the National Prep Tournament.

The only No. 1-ranked wrestler to meet with an upset was Nick Roberts of North Star (Boswell, Pa.). The No. 1-ranked 103-pound wrestler heading into the state finals, Roberts lost in the semifinals and finished third in the AA division. The 103-pound rankings were rife with upsets as the top three ranked wrestlers all lost in their state tournaments.
Like Central Mountain, Monroeville (Ohio) placed two wrestlers at the No. 1 spot. Logan Steiber won the 125-pound weight class at the Ohio Division III finals and finished the season 55-0. Teammate Chris Phillips won the 171-pound class and went 42-0.
Blair Academy (Blairstown, N.J.), a prep school in New Jersey, had three wrestlers finish the season ranked No. 1. Evan Silver was a National Prep Tournament champion at 112 pounds while teammates Mike Evans (189) and Chris Villalonga (140) did the same.
