On Friday, Surprise Valley was able to grind out a solid win over Whittell, taking the game 49-38.
Surprise Valley was led to victory by Iina Nabahe-Henry and Casey Grove. Nabahe-Henry scored 17 points, while Grove scored 20 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Grove has scored at least 25% of Surprise Valley's points. Another player making a difference was Kevin Castillo, who scored 7 points.
Despite the loss, Whittell still got an impressive performance from Alex Rvovic, who scored 23 points along with 8 rebounds and 3 steals. Rvovic scored a full 60.5% of Whittell's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Rocky Laremore was another key contributor, scoring 0 points along with 9 assists and 6 rebounds.
Surprise Valley now has a winning record of 2-1-1. As for Whittell, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.
Surprise Valley will be playing in front of their home fans against Big Valley at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Big Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Friday. Whittell will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against Owyhee at 7:45 p.m. on December 6th.
