Having just played yesterday, the HEARTS for Jesus Christ Guardians will head out on the road to face off against the Christian Community Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on February 13th. HEARTS for Jesus Christ is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
On Monday, it was a hard-fought contest, but HEARTS for Jesus Christ had to settle for a 55-52 loss against St. Martin de Porres.
Despite the loss, HEARTS for Jesus Christ had strong showings from Maria Cottenden, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 11 rebounds, and Alex Zelenka, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 22 rebounds. Cottenden has been hot recently, having posted 11 or more rebounds the last six times she's played. Emily Carpenter was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Even though they lost, HEARTS for Jesus Christ smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 34 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, in a tight game that could have gone either way, Christian Community made off with a 28-27 victory over Open Door Christian.
Lily Babet and Sarah Solak were among the main playmakers for Christian Community as the former scored three points along with three steals and the latter scored 13 points along with six steals. Solak hasn't dropped below two steals for 11 straight games.
HEARTS for Jesus Christ has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 16-7 record this season. As for Christian Community, the win got them back to even at 9-9.
Tuesday's contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: HEARTS for Jesus Christ have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 40.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Christian Community struggles in that department as they've been averaging 36.3 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
HEARTS for Jesus Christ strolled past Christian Community in their previous meeting back in January by a score of 48-33. Will HEARTS for Jesus Christ repeat their success, or does Christian Community have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
