Mt. Morris is 0-10 against New Lothrop since April of 2021 but things could change on Monday. The Panthers will venture away from home to take on the Hornets at 4:00 p.m. Mt. Morris' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so New Lothrop's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Carrollton hit Mt. Morris with a four-run first inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Panthers took a 9-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cavaliers. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask New Lothrop). They were the clear victors by a 19-7 margin over Corunna on Friday. Winning may never get old, but the Hornets sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Braxton Tallon looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Reece Eustace and Nathan Kuchar did most of the damage at the plate: Eustace got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base, while Kuchar got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most runs Eustace has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Michael Schlachter, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
New Lothrop always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .579. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
New Lothrop's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-8. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Mt. Morris, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.
Mt. Morris might still be hurting after the 12-2 loss they got from New Lothrop in their previous meeting back in June of 2024. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
