Geibel Catholic has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Carmichaels Mighty Mikes at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Geibel Catholic has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Geibel Catholic's 18-9 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They lost to Brownsville at home by a decisive 64-50 margin on Tuesday. That's two games in a row now that Geibel Catholic has lost by exactly 14 points.
Despite the loss, Geibel Catholic had strong showings from Gary Tarbuk, who scored 18 points, and Tommy Kolencik, who scored 13 points along with nine rebounds and four blocks. Those 18 points set a new season-high mark for him.
Even though they lost, Geibel Catholic were working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Carmichaels was beaten by Monessen 68-37 on Tuesday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Carmichaels in their matchups with Monessen: they've now lost five in a row.
Geibel Catholic bumped their record down to 0-5 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Carmichaels, they now have a losing record at 2-3.
Geibel Catholic was able to grind out a solid victory over Carmichaels in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, winning 52-44. The rematch might be a little tougher for Geibel Catholic since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
