Green River has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Whitehorse Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Green River knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine contests -- so hopefully Whitehorse likes a good challenge.
Last Thursday, Green River strolled past Pinnacle with points to spare, taking the game 65-47. That's two games straight that Green River has won by exactly 18 points.
It was another big night for Luis Hernandez, who scored 24 points. He has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jason Hernandez, who scored 13 points.
Whitehorse posted their biggest win yet this season on Thursday. They blew past Northwest 72-33 on the road. With Whitehorse ahead 36-12 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Lyric Phillips was his usual excellent self, scoring 28 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Whitehorse's points. Larenz Tsosie was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Green River is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. As for Whitehorse, the win got them back to even at 7-7.
Tuesday's contest will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Hernandez and Phillips. Hernandez has been dynamite this season: he has averaged 16.3 points. For his part, Phillips has averaged 23.6 points.
Everything went Green River's way against Whitehorse when the teams last played two weeks ago as Green River made off with a 71-49 victory.
