The Alexandria Trojans will be taking part in a tournament against the Calvary Baptist Academy Cavaliers at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Alexandria's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over Glenmora. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Trojans considering their one-run performance the matchup before.
Ella Melder and Mary Claire Brinkman were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Melder pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Brinkman tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single walk in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Melder went 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple, while Brinkman scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Amiyah Wilson was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Jordyn Turner, who scored two runs while going 4-for-4.
Alexandria was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .581. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, Calvary Baptist Academy strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They blew past Stanley 19-2.
Addison Willis spent all five innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Baylor Bockhaus, who fired off two home runs, seven RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-3. Those seven RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaycee Sledge, who fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-3.
Alexandria has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 15 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Calvary Baptist Academy, they pushed their record up to 29-0 with the victory, which was their 18th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Alexandria hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .347. However, it's not like Calvary Baptist Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .424. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
