Baseball Recap: East Bay Find Success

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but East Bay ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Durant Cougars by a score of 9-6. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 4-1 back in March.

Connor Gavigan made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over 4.1 innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because East Bay is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 9-10 otherwise. Gavigan was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, East Bay let Rory Beauford and Rowland Ruiz run wild. Beauford scored two runs while going 2-for-5, while Ruiz scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Beauford has become a key player for East Bay: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-11 otherwise. Trenden Norman also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

The victory got East Bay back to even at 11-11. As for Durant, they moved to 13-7 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. East Bay will face off against Freedom at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (the Indians have three straight wins, the Patriots have three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field. As for Durant, they will square off against Plant at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Cougars 3.6, the Panthers 1.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
