Braxton Lefler was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and eight unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Lefler wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jaxon Preator, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
As for Monticello, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-8. The result was nothing new for the Buckaroo, who have now won seven games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Like North Summit, Monticello also got a great game from a two-way player: Jackson Keyes. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Keyes was even better at the plate, going 5-for-6 with one home run, six RBI, and two doubles. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Kooper Nielson was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2024. Arturo Guiterrez was another key player, going 2-for-5 with four runs and two stolen bases.
