The Oley Valley Lynx will head out to take on the Schuylkill Haven Hurricanes at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Oley Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Oley Valley lost 9-2 to Schuylkill Valley on Wednesday. The Lynx have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Oley Valley saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ava Walters, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Schuylkill Haven, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They blew past Minersville 10-3 on Thursday. Considering the Hurricanes have won seven games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Allison Scherer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Teagan Wehr and Emmie Scherer did most of the damage at the plate: Wehr went 3-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and one stolen base, while Emmie got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. What's more, Wehr posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in March. Ally Becker was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Schuylkill Haven's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Oley Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7.
Friday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Oley Valley has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .435. However, it's not like Schuylkill Haven struggles in that department as they've averaged .451. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Oley Valley suffered a grim 12-3 defeat to Schuylkill Haven in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Lynx avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
